Board Meeting Update for Oct 14, 2025
Animal Services
- New adoptable dog “Bunny,” a 10-month-old German Shepherd mix, introduced.
- September stats: 660+ volunteer hours, 22 adoptions, 141 vaccines, 61 dogs microchipped.
- 2025 totals so far: 763 rabies vaccines and 226 microchips administered.
- BOS approved applying for state financing to build a new Animal Services Facility.
Sheriff’s Office
- October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
- Community survey launched (online and available on bulletin boards) to gather public input for the department’s strategic plan.
Public Comments
- Residents voiced concerns about government transparency and CalTrans project communication with county officials.
Behavioral & Mental Health
- Approved $750,000 agreement with Sierra Child and Family Services for specialty mental health programs (July 2025–June 2026).
- Approved multiple contracts (totaling $426,000) with Nexus Youth & Family Services for youth prevention and treatment programs, plus $2,500 for foster youth assessments.
- Approved $1.8 million agreement (through 2029) with Chabot-Las Positas Community College District for specialized staff training.
Housing Programs
- Approved acceptance of two housing grants:
- Transitional Housing Program: up to $39,969.
- Housing Navigation & Maintenance Program: up to $41,019.
 
Waste Management
- Approved agreement allowing Alpine County to dispose of waste through Calaveras County’s system at $143/ton, subject to annual rate increases.
Senior & Community Services
- Amador Senior Center gave an update on Meals on Wheels:
- Serving 117 Calaveras residents weekly with 5 frozen meals each.
- Delivered 32,210 meals in FY 2024–25; projected to triple this year.
- Added 3 volunteers and provided 20 emergency meal boxes and 864 lbs of pet food.
