On the Record: McClintock Voted for It. Much of the Impact Is Still Ahead.

Rural Seniors, Children & Veterans – On the Record: McClintock Voted for It. Much of the Impact Is Still Ahead.

The ballots are arriving for our November 3 midterm election.

And before we vote, it’s worth remembering what Congressman Tom McClintock voted for — and when we will actually feel the consequences.

On July 3, 2025, McClintock voted YES on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The House passed it 218–214, with 218 Republicans voting yes. President Trump signed it into law the next day.

The vote happened in 2025.
The consequences don’t all happen in 2025 or 2026.

Some changes are already underway. But beginning January 1, 2027 — after the midterm election — some adults ages 19–64 on Medi-Cal will face new work, school, training or volunteer requirements. Some will also have their Medi-Cal eligibility checked every six months instead of annually. Failing to meet the requirements or missing deadlines can result in loss of coverage.

Think about that timeline.

Congress voted in 2025.
We vote in November 2026.
Some of the major consequences begin in January 2027

They wrote the bill that way on purpose.   Sit with that for a second.

That’s important for everyone in Calaveras County — and particularly for people who depend on Medi-Cal, CalFresh or other programs affected by the law.  That includes our veterans!

Calaveras County is home to 3,286 veterans. Veterans don’t all receive their health care exclusively through the VA. Some rely on Medicaid for some or all of their health coverage. And in a rural county, losing coverage can mean more than an insurance change. It can mean longer drives, fewer providers and delayed care.

We often hear politicians say they support veterans.

But supporting veterans isn’t just about speeches on Veterans Day.

It’s about the votes.

McClintock voted YES.

The law passed and some of its biggest health-care consequences are still ahead of us.

By the time a family feels the full effect of a law, the vote that created it would be a distant memory. The supporters of this bill are counting on that.

The vote happened.
The law happened.
The midterms are happening now.
And some of the consequences are still coming.

Before you fill out your ballot, look at the record.

McClintock voted YES for Calaveras to lose benefits; he knew you wouldn’t feel it until after the mid-terms.  That’s what On the Record is about.

The mid-terms are upon us.  A new congress can fix this.

Let’s vote for change and vote for Michael Masuda for Congress!
